Historical Museum Opens Hopkinton Church’s 119-Year Old Cornerstone Box

A piece of history was unveiled in Hopkinton last weekend.

The old Presbyterian Church that was recently torn down has donated its cornerstone to the Delaware County Historical Society.

The public gathered for a ceremony on Sunday to receive the cornerstone – and open a box that was found in the cornerstone.

The small copper box – 119 years old – had been sodered shut. Delaware County Historical Society President Craig Lange says it was essentially a time capsule, with several historic contents inside from the early 1900s.

He says they’re planning to make a display case at the Delaware County Historical Museum.

Lange says the old Presbyterian Church was a big part of the Hopkinton community, so it’s nice that part of it will still remain at the Lenox College Campus.
