NICC Peosta Campus Hosting Student Crisis Fundraiser

The Northeast Iowa Community College Peosta campus is hosting the 17th Annual Kathryn J. Davis Student Crisis Fundraiser today.

The annual event, which runs from 11 am to 1 pm, will feature soup and dessert bar samples, along with live entertainment by performer Elizabeth Mary. The cost is $4 for students and $6 for NICC faculty, staff and community members.

The fundraiser provides financial support for the Kathryn J. Davis Student Crisis Fund, which was established as emergency aid for students with an immediate crisis that threatens their ability to attend class or progress in their coursework. Currently enrolled students who have school-related expenses are eligible for assistance. Through a variety of fundraising efforts – including a soup and dessert bake-off, pumpkin decorating contest and a virtual silent auction – the event raises several thousand dollars each year.

Last year, the Student Crisis Fundraiser raised more than $9,000 district–wide and assisted twenty NICC students experiencing a crisis. Event organizers say that the College has so far received 22 requests for assistance since the start of the academic year.
