The November city and school elections are now less than a week away – and in this week leading up to the election, we are giving you a chance to hear from candidates in some of the locally-contested races.
Today, we’re featuring the race for Manchester City Council’s 3rd Ward, in which incumbent Bill Scherbring is being challenged by Ron Mortenson.
Scherbring has owned and operated Honey Creek Furniture for more than two decades.
Scherbring is running for re-election after serving his first four-year term on the City Council.
Scherbring says if he’s re-elected, there are several other initiatives he’d like to pursue with the Council – one of which is glass recycling.
Scherbring’s opponent is Ron Mortenson. Mortenson is also self-employed as part of a second-generation family-run business.
Mortenson says he’s running for the Manchester City Council because he wants a voice.
Mortenson says if he’s elected next Tuesday, his priorities would focus on debt and transparency.
Election Day is next Tuesday, November 7th. The rest of the week, we’ll be highlighting the contested Maquoketa Valley School Board races and we’ll wrap up our candidate previews with the race for Hopkinton mayor on Monday.
