Candidate Preview – Maquoketa Valley School Board

Election Day is coming up next Tuesday.

All week long, we’ve been giving you a chance to hear from candidates running in several locally-contested races – and over the past couple days, we’ve been featuring the contested races for the Maquoketa Valley School Board.

In the Director District 2 race, incumbent Donna Kunde is being challenged by Joseph Koopman.

Donna Kunde

Kunde has served on the school board for nearly three decades.

Kunde says she is running for re-election because she feels her experience on the board will help as they move forward.

Kunde says if she’s re-elected, one of her top priorities would be funding.

Kunde’s opponent, Joseph Koopman, has not returned our requests for an interview, so we are not able to bring you his comments about his candidacy.

In the race for Maquoketa Valley School Board Director District At-Large (for a four-year term), incumbent John Zietlow is being challenged by Dustin Mead.

John Zietlow

Zietlow has served on the school board for eighteen years.

Zietlow says he’s running for re-election because he’d like to continue to make the decisions that keep Maquoketa Valley one of the best schools in the state.

Zietlow has several priorities if he’s re-elected to the Maquoketa Valley School Board next week.

Zietlow’s opponent, Dustin Mead, has not returned our requests for an interview, so we are not able to bring you his comments about his candidacy.

Pam Overman is running uncontested for Maquoketa Valley School Board’s Director At-Large (2-year term). The Delaware County Auditor’s Office says all of the Maquoketa Valley School Board races are being elected at-large.

Coming up on Monday, you’ll hear from the candidates running for mayor of Hopkinton.

Election Day is next Tuesday, November 7th, with polls open from 7 am to 8 pm. If you don’t think you’ll be able to make it to the polls that day, in-person absentee voting is still available at the Delaware County Auditor’s Office through 4:30 pm Monday.
