Election Results – City and School Races

Tuesday was Election Day for combined city and school elections.
There were three contested races for Manchester City Council this year, with three current council members being challenged by newcomers. And if the unofficial results hold, it looks like there will be two new members on the Manchester City Council in 2024.
In the race for Manchester City Council Ward 3, incumbent Bill Scherbring appears to have narrowly defeated Ron Mortenson 179 to 173 votes.Â
In the race for Manchester City Council At-Large, challenger Bryan Gray has defeated incumbent and mayor pro-tem Tania Bradley 475 to 401, with 43 write-in votes for that race.
And the Manchester City Council Ward 1 seat featured challenger Joe Dittrick on the ballot, with incumbent Dean Sherman running as a write-in candidate. Dittrick received 129 votes, with the total number of write-in votes at 118. The Delaware County Auditor’s Office says the individual names listed as write-in votes will not be balanced until Wednesday or Thursday, so we won’t know the amount of votes Sherman received until that time.Â
The only contested mayor’s race in Delaware County this year was in Hopkinton, where challenger Craig Lange has defeated incumbent Cathy 102 to 81.
In the Dyersville City Council At-Large race, Mike English appears to have defeated Austin Zuercher 318 to 306.Â
On the Delhi City Council, three candidates were running for two open seats, with Brenda Krumviede and LaRae Koopman receiving the most votes.
Maquoketa Valley had two contested school board races. For Director District 2, incumbent Donna Kunde defeated challenger Joseph Koopman 413 to 199. For the 4-year At-Large seat, incumbent John Zietlow defeated challenger Dustin Mead 362 to 246.
The Monticello School Board featured four candidates on the ballot for two open spots, with John Schlarmann and Tony Amsler receiving the most votes.
The Starmont School Board had three open seats, with four candidates running. Julie Uhlenkamp, Jason Gearhart and Anthony Recker received the most votes.
And the Western Dubuque School Board featured a contested race for Director District 5, with Kari Krogman defeating Amanda Schlemme 55 to 44 percent.

The Delaware County Auditor’s Office says this year’s voter turnout for the city and school elections in Delaware County was just over 18 percent. That’s slightly lower than the 2021 city and school elections, which saw voter turnout at just under 25 percent.
