The following is an update to the story unfolding this morning in Monticello and Hopkinton.
Update 11:23 am
The Monticello Police Department has issued a press release regarding this morning’s shooting at the Monticello Fareway store.
Police were dispatched to the commercial address of 420 North Farley Street in Monticello at approximately 7:29 am for a report of a person who had been shot. A male victim was discovered and subsequently airlifted to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
An active search for the suspect ensued, where the suspect was located a short time later in Hopkinton.
While attempting to take the suspect into custody, an officer-involved shooting occurred. The suspect was airlifted to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
This is an ongoing investigation and more details will be released as they become available.

The Jones County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed to KMCH that an employee was injured in a shooting at the Monticello Fareway store this morning. The 911 call came in at 7:24 am.
The Sheriff’s Office has also confirmed that the gunman left Monticello and ended up in Hopkinton, where shots were fired and the suspect was taken into custody.
Authorities are still investigating the relationship between the gunman and the Fareway employee, as well as what transpired during the shooting.

All schools in the Monticello Community School District and businesses in Monticello are on lockdown this morning.
The lockdown comes following several unconfirmed reports of a shooting at or near the Monticello Fareway store. Monticello Fareway announced on their Facebook page this morning that the store is temporarily closed due to unforeseen circumstances, but have not released further details.
Monticello Police have confirmed to KMCH that there is an active investigation underway, but no further information has been released.
All school buildings in the Maquoketa Valley School District are also on a Level 1 lockdown as a precautionary measure – all exterior doors will remain locked. Maquoketa Valley Superintendent Dave Hoeger says no further information is being released at this time.
Western Dubuque schools and Ed-Co schools are also on lockdown.
KMCH has also received several unconfirmed reports of shots fired in Hopkinton, with the suspect taken into custody. Delaware County Dispatch is not releasing any information at this time.
