Clayton County Site Honored with Silos & Smokestacks Award

A Clayton County site has received an honor from Silos & Smokestacks National Heritage Area.

The Motor Mill Historic Site southeast of Elkader has received the award for Outstanding Preservation in Agriculture.

Located on the banks of the Turkey River, Motor Mill Historic Site is a peaceful natural area that features a six-story limestone flouring mill and four related stone buildings dating from the late 1860’s. The site has been owned and managed by the Clayton County Conservation Board since 1983, with assistance from The Motor Mill Foundation with planning, site development, preservation efforts, programming, and funding.

Motor Mill invites you to stop out this Saturday, November 18th for their bridge lighting and open house. The event to kick off the holiday season at the site runs from 4 to 6 pm, with the display of lights turning on at 5 pm.
