Ellen Jean Nystel – Manchester

Ellen Jean Nystel, 64, passed away on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City.

She was born on November 5, 1959, in Independence, the daughter of Harl and Jean (McLane) Wilson. Ellen was raised in the Manchester area and was a 1978 graduate of West Delaware High School. On July 10, 1982, Ellen was united in marriage to Glenn Nystel at the United Methodist Church in Manchester. Three children were born to this union. The couple resided in Manchester. Ellen worked as a customer service representative for VGM in Waterloo. Ellen was a longtime member of the Manchester Methodist Church. She was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs. Ellen enjoyed gardening and crocheting blankets for her family and friends. She liked going for rides in their Mustang, on
their motorcycle, and riding her bike. She was a real cat lover and was a sucker for any stray cat. Above all else, Ellen loved her family. Ellen courageously battled cancer twice and recently survived a broken neck and back. She was a fighter and the strongest person her family knew. The world is a dimmer place without her light.

Survivors include her husband of 41 years, Glenn Nystel of Manchester; three children, Jessica Nystel of Iowa Falls, Jeff Nystel of Marion, and Mark Nystel of Manchester; her four siblings, Janice Wilson, Allen (Carolyn) Wilson, Shirley (Jim) Wickman, and John Wilson, all of Manchester; sisters-and-brothers-in-law, Harold Ries of Earlville, Sara (Dale) James of Garner, Sandra (Dan) Brummond and Irvin Nystel all of New Hampton; and many nieces and nephews.

Ellen was preceded in death by her parents; a brother in infancy; sister, Dianna Ries; brother-in-law, Wayne Nystel; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Nystel.
