Manchester City Council Discusses Potential 2024 Street Project

The City of Manchester is making plans for next year’s street improvement project.

After a break this year, they’ll be back working on East Main Street next year – with the next section of improvements running from Bailey Drive to nearly Stiles Street.

The project will include the total reconstruction of street, water and sewer, along with spot storm sewer repairs. City Manager Tim Vick says the project was discussed at Monday night’s city council meeting.

Around twenty properties along that stretch of East Main Street are set to be assessed for next year’s project, with preliminary assessments ranging on average between $10,000 and $15,000 per property – though some reach as high as $22,000. One city council member objected to the assessments Monday night.

The Manchester City Council voted 4 to 1 to take the next step with the 2024 street project, which includes holding a public hearing in January. Since East Main Street qualifies for state funding, the project will also go out for a state bid letting, so the City will wait to see how the bids come in before they decide to move forward with the project and assessments.
