Christmas Hope Program in Fourth Year of Helping Delaware County Families

Delaware County Pay It Forward is once again helping local families this Christmas.

Committee member Missy McIntyre says the group started their “Christmas Hope” program in the midst of the pandemic in 2020 to help provide Christmas gifts for families in Delaware County who were struggling financially. And they’ve continued the program each year because they have found the need is still there.

And McIntyre says it’s not just low-income families – it’s also middle class families, who are having to choose between groceries and Christmas presents for their kids.

The program is open to any child up to age 18 living in Delaware County. McIntyre is the only one who sees the applications that come in – and she says along with providing with a couple gifts they request, they try to give some extras too.

If you’d like to help by donating a gift, there are “Christmas Hope” giving trees at local businesses (we have a tree here at KMCH, but you can find a complete list of the giving tree locations posted on the Delaware County Pay It Forward Facebook page). Just pick a tag off the tree, purchase the gift on that tag (with a $25 budget in mind) and return the gift unwrapped to the business where you got the tag (with the tag attached). The gifts need to be returned by Monday, December 4th.

McIntyre says they still have several kids who need to be adopted through this program – if any resident, business or group is interested, Delaware County Pay It Forward can get you a list of gift requests. And she says they are still taking monetary donations to help fulfill the tags that aren’t picked, as well as the kids who were not adopted yet.

Keep in mind – the application deadline has passed, but if you are someone who could use a little extra help providing gifts to your child this Christmas, you can still mail an application – if there are extra funds available, they may be able to fulfill your request.
