Driver Injured in Two-Vehicle Crash in Linn County

A driver was airlifted to the hospital following an accident Monday morning.

The Linn County Sheriff’s Office says emergency personnel responded to a two-vehicle crash at 4537 Urbana Road on the northwest side of Center Point around 8 am.

Deputies say a eastbound garbage truck had stopped to pick up trash when it was struck from behind by an eastbound pickup truck.

Rescue workers had to free the pickup driver, 16-year old Cooper Vaupel of Center Point, from his truck. He was airlifted by LifeGuard Air Ambulance to an area hospital to be treated for what authorities believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

The garbage truck operator, 63-year old Scott Doornink of Central City, was not hurt.
