Salter Remembered for Generous Impact on Dyersville Community

The Dyersville community is mourning the loss of one of their leaders.

Steve Salter passed away unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday. He was 65.

Salter, a retired business owner with Edward Jones, had served on Dyersville Industries, Inc. (also known as the Dyersville Economic Development Corporation) for more than twenty years, most recently serving the past seven years as President of the organization – only the 5th president in the organization’s four-decade history.

Dyersville Economic Development Director Jacque Rahe says Salter’s dedication and passion for the Dyersville community was overwhelming and has left an indelible mark on so many people, businesses and community betterment projects.

Salter had worked on a number of large projects, such as building Dyersville’s industrial parks and spec buildings, the redevelopment of the downtown (including the Landing, Textile Brewery, Fuse and the new baseball museum in the old Tegeler Dairy). He was also instrumental in recent developments with the Field of Dreams, Legacy Square, Dyersville’s trail development, the ethanol plant, affordable housing and rental availability, the 7 Hills West property and the Dyersville Dog Park (which was created in memory of his daughter, Liz). One of the most recent projects he’s been involved with is the new Michael and Jean Knepper Child Care Center.

“Steve was instrumental in working with area businesses in recruitment and expansion opportunities – and even up until his last day here on earth sent lists of businesses to contact and projects that needed discussion,” says Rahe. “He was so generous with his time and talents. He will be greatly missed.”

Funeral service for Salter will be held Tuesday at 10:30 am at St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville.
