Wrong-Way Driver Leads to Highway 20 Crash Near Dyersville

A wrong-way driver caused a collision on Highway 20 west of Dyersville on Monday night.
The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office says they had received multiple 911 calls about a wrong-way driver in the Dyersville area who was heading westbound in Highway 20’s eastbound lanes. Around 7:15 pm, they received a 911 call of an accident at the intersection of Highway 20 and 300th Avenue.Â
An investigation shows a black Chevy Equinox driven by 69-year old Denise Tinker of Elgin was traveling the wrong direction on Highway 20 in the eastbound lane. At the intersection of 300th Avenue, she turned northbound into the median, but either did not yield or was in the inside lane of the westbound lanes – that’s when her vehicle was hit by a westbound SUV.Â
Tinker’s vehicle rolled backwards after being hit, while the westbound SUV entered the north ditch.Â
The driver of the westbound SUV, 26-year old Bailey Douglas of Dyersville, told authorities she had seen Tinker’s vehicle sitting in the roadway, but did not see any headlights.Â
Authorities say Tinker was confused and unaware of where she was after the crash.
Both Tinker and Douglas were transported by ambulance to Regional Medical Center in Manchester for possible injuries.Â
Tinker was cited for Driving on the Wrong Side of a Two-Way Highway and Failure to Yield Upon Entering Through Highway.
