Linn County’s Bertram ‘Blue’ Bridge Now Open in New Location

A ribbon cutting was held on Monday to celebrate the official opening of Linn County’s Bertam “Blue” Bridge at the Indian Creek Nature Center.

The historic bridge now serves as a connection between trails at the Nature Center.

Last year, the Linn County Secondary Road Department began a replacement and relocation project for the 146-year-old bridge. The project included replacing the current bridge with a new concrete beam bridge and relocating the Blue Bridge to the Indian Creek Nature Center for use on their trail system. Due to the truss bridge being a registered historic structure, the Linn County Historic Preservation Commission participated in this project with the Secondary Road Department and Indian Creek Nature Center to ensure the bridge is preserved and properly signed in its new home.

Residents are invited to visit the Nature Center and check out the Blue Bridge as they hike the trail system and experience what nature has to offer.
