‘Operation Graduation’ Mock Crash Taking Place at West Delaware

Delaware County Emergency Management will be hosting a mock crash at West Delaware High School in Manchester this afternoon.
They’re calling it Operation Graduation – and Emergency Management Coordinator Mandy Bieber says it’s meant to inform the juniors and seniors about the many dangers of bad driving choices.
That’s Manchester firefighter Matt Wieser, who says the fire department will work with EMS on the scene of today’s mock crash.
Car crashes continue to be the number one killer of teenagers. Bieber says today’s exercise is a way to show the students what their choices can lead to – whether it’s distracted driving, high speed driving or intoxicated driving.
She says she hopes this makes an impact.
Operation Graduation will begin around 12:30 pm this afternoon at West Delaware’s Old Bus Garage Lot. Emergency Management wants the Manchester community to know they may hear a hovering helicopter, loud noises and sirens and see emergency vehicles with their lights on – but they want to assure everyone that this is only an exercise. They apologize in advance for the noise and commotion, but they hope this experience will help our local teens make good choices when getting behind the wheel.
