KMCH SPORTS: Turf Project Breaks Ground at West Delaware’s Brown Field

Work began at Brown Field in Manchester on Tuesday.  Most of the grass on the playing surface was torn up starting the process of laying the groundwork to replace it with synthetic turf. The nearly Nine Hundred Thousand dollar project is being executed by Top Grade Excavating out of Farley. The completion date is scheduled for Friday, August 2nd. Brown Field has been home to Football in Manchester since the Fall of 1930, in the first game ever played there the Manchester Manhawks defeated Arlington 45-0. The Field was named in honor of donors Clarence Brown and his sister Mildred Brown Cobb in memory of their parents Austin and Anna Brown. It will of course remain the home of West Delaware Football and the Hawks Girls and Boys Soccer Programs will begin calling it their home next Spring.
