After Nearly Four Years, Drought Finally Over in Iowa

The drought is finally over in Iowa.

For the first time in nearly four years, the latest Iowa Drought Monitor shows there’s no sign of drought conditions anywhere in the state. State Climatologist Justin Glisan:

Parts of Iowa still remain abnormally dry – including Buchanan, Clayton and Fayette counties, as well as much of Delaware and Linn counties – but all levels of drought have disappeared. Glisan monitors all nine climate divisions in Iowa.

But he says if there’s a particularly dry and warm stretch this summer, this may only be temporary.

However, Glisan says soil moisture levels and stream flows in Iowa are both near or above average right now — and the initial weather outlook for June is above normal.
