Delaware County Hosts Relay for Life
Remembering Those We've Lost, Honoring Those Still Fighting

The Delaware County Relay for Life was held Friday night at the Delaware County Fairgrounds, with most activities moved into buildings due to the threat of rain and storms.ÂÂ
The Relay for Life is held every other year in Manchester. Around forty cancer survivors from the Delaware County area participated in this year’s survivor ceremony in the show ring, with most proudly wearing their purple cancer survivor t-shirts. Survivors and their friends and families made leisurely laps around the luminaries that were set up in the beef barn, with dozens upon dozens of white paper bags lit up and decorated with the names of local residents who have lost the battle and those who are still fighting.ÂÂ
Susanne Scherbring of Manchester has been a cancer survivor for 23 years.
Tim Rudd of Manchester says he got involved with volunteering at the Relay for Life fourteen years ago, but it took on a whole new meaning when he was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2020.
Rudd says it’s so important to support the Relay for Life and those affected by cancer.
The crowd was down this year due to the threat for rain and storms, but Relay Co-Chairs Pat Becker and Jill Goos say they were grateful to everyone who showed their support.
