Names Released in Fatal Linn County Collision

Authorities have released the names of those involved in Sunday’s fatal crash in Linn County.

The Linn County Sheriff’s Office says two vehicles collided on Highway 13 at the Blaine’s Crossing Road intersection around 1 pm. 

According to an investigation and statements from witnesses, a car driven by 65-year old Charles Layton of Cedar Rapids was westbound on Blaine’s Crossing Road and failed to yield upon entering Highway 13. A northbound vehicle struck Layton’s car broadside, with both vehicles coming to rest in the median.

Layton and his passenger, 77-year old Carol Mart of Cedar Rapids, died at the scene.

The driver of the other vehicle, 54-year old Martin Hagensick of Marion, was not hurt.
