Coloff Media Expanding to KMAQ in Maquoketa

KMAQ AM/FM in Maquoketa will have a new owner for the first time in more than six decades.
Longtime owner Dennis Voy has been the voice of KMAQ Radio Station since it went on the air on August 18th, 1958. Dennis and KMAQ Radio Station have been serving the KMAQ listening area of Jackson, Clinton, and Jones counties for 66 years. In that time, KMAQ has expanded from one radio frequency to three radio frequencies, attended thousands of local events and fairs, hosted thousands of community members for on air interviews and donated extensively back into the community. The station has been the go-to place for current local and national news, severe weather updates, obituaries and school cancellations.
Dennis will entrust KMAQ to new owner, Jim Coloff. Jim is the owner of Coloff Media, which owns 12 radio stations throughout Iowa, including KMCH in Manchester. He also owns stations in Cedar Falls-Waterloo, Charles City, New Hampton, Mason City, Forest City and Britt. Dennis and Jim have been acquaintances for many years, and Coloff says he has always had a special fondness for Dennis and KMAQ Radio.

KMAQ will remain a hometown radio station that is invested in the local community. All current employees will continue with KMAQ Radio Station through the transition. Sarah Meyer, who is the long-time station manager of KMCH in Manchester, will take on an additional role serving as the interim station manager at KMAQ. Having spent 20 years in local radio, Meyer is thrilled to channel her excitement into serving Maquoketa and the surrounding communities. She says it’s a privilege to apply her expertise and passion to make a meaningful impact and keep small local radio alive and well.

Jim plans to become involved in the local community, just like Dennis has been for decades. Jim and James have already become major Cardinal fans, both Maquoketa & St. Louis, and KMAQ Radio will continue to be heavily involved in all local sports.
One new addition at KMAQ will be the Coloff Digital division, which specializes in building websites, producing videos, graphic design and digital advertising services. A new website for kmaq.com is also planned for the near future.
