Randalia No Longer Considered City

One of the smallest cities in northeast Iowa is no longer considered a city at all.

Randalia – a Fayette County community with a population of about 50 – was officially unincorporated on June 30th. City Clerk Katrina Lane has lived in Randalia most of her life.

Lane has four kids and her oldest child is teenage son Andy.

Katrina says Randalia auctioned off the city properties to pay off its debt.

Katrina said seeing the park equipment go was a tough day for everyone, including her two young daughters. She says the population just kept declining and the town didn’t have the people or money to do the jobs to keep it running.

Fayette County will now be responsible for Randalia, which includes snowplowing and maintaining its roads from this point on.
