Alvera Margaret Derga was born December 18, 1931, at home in rural Delhi, Iowa, the oldest daughter born to Albert Leo & Marcella C. (Leyendecker) Derga. She attended the Delhi Consolidated School in Delhi until her family moved to a farm near Worthington. She then attended and graduated from St. Paul Catholic School in Worthington, Iowa. Alvera met the love of her life, Ralph John Weber, at a dance in January of 1956 in Worthington. Shortly after meeting, Ralph left to serve in the U.S. Army. Every day that he was gone, they both wrote letters to one another until his return from service in Germany. After Ralph’s discharge, they were united in marriage on January 20, 1959, at St. Paul Catholic Church in Worthington, Iowa. On February 16, 1959, they moved to their farm in rural Winthrop. Being raised on a farm, Alvera had an incredible love for her cows and the dairy industry. She was very proud of their quality awards from Swiss Valley Farms. She also enjoyed embroidery, gardening and canning. She often times froze many gallons of apples from her son’s trees.
The two most important parts of Alvera’s life were her family and her Catholic faith. Some of the family’s fondest memories were around the kitchen table playing 500 rummy, euchre and blackout. Alvera was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Monti, until it closed in 2009. She was currently a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Winthrop.
Alvera is survived by her 5 sons: Ralph Weber, Jr. of Aurora, Roger Weber (Dawn Bockenstedt) of Winthrop, Ronald (Sandra) Weber of Masonville, Kenneth (LuAnn) Weber of Quasqueton & Gerald (Lisa) Weber of Delhi; 5 grandchildren: Carrie (Dan) Clouse of Palo, Julitta Weber (Zantz McConnell) of Monticello, Justin (Michelle) Weber of Earlville, Nathan Weber of Delhi & McKayla Weber of Delhi; 6 great grandchildren: 2 sisters: Bernice Lansing of Dyersville & Grace Neuzil of Dyersville; 11 in-laws: Cathy Derga of Worthington, Carol Derga of Racine, Wisconsin, Joan Stoneking of Monticello, Marvin Weber of Cedar Rapids, Wayne Weber of Orlando, Florida, Janet Weber of Cedar Rapids, Bev Voelker of Marion, Eugene (Marsha) Weber of Rio Rancho, New Mexico and Delbert (Mary) Weber of Mechanicsville and numerous nieces & nephews.
