Fire Damages Home in Petersburg

Fire damaged a home in Petersburg on Wednesday night.

The Dyersville Fire Department says they were called to the home of Joe Pasker at 1637 299th Avenue shortly before 8 pm for a structure fire.

Fire Chief Jeremy Honkomp says one of their firefighters who was in the Petersburg area was the first to arrive at the scene. He was able to contain the fire until the rest of the department arrived.

The fire started in the floor of the kitchen, though it’s still undetermined what caused the fire. Damage was contained to the kitchen floor, the ceiling of the basement and a couple of floor joists, with damage estimated to be $5,000.

No one was injured. Chief Honkomp says the residents are staying with family after the fire.

Firefighters were on the scene for about two and a half hours, with assistance from Colesburg, Earlville and New Vienna fire departments and Delaware County Sheriff’s deputies.
