Independence Police Warn of Asphalt Paving Scam

Independence Police have received reports of an asphalt paving scam.

The police department says the victim was not from Independence, but the scammers used a fictitious address from the city.

Here are some signs of an asphalt paving scam:

*The contractor shows up at your door or leaves a pamphlet

*They claim to have been working in the area and have extra supplies

*They offer a discount

*They ask for a large percentage of the fee upfront

*They disappear after the transaction is complete

*Their contact information is fake, low quality or has missing information

*The work is poor quality

*They use intimidation tactics, such as threatening a lawsuit

Independence Police ask that you share this information with elderly neighbors and relatives. And if you see any of these scammers, please notify your local law enforcement immediately.
