KMCH SPORTS: Family Week for High School Athletics and Activities

BY JON SWISHER – SPORTS DIRECTOR:

The fourth year of an annual break for 7th-12th grade school participants in athletics and activities across the state each summer began yesterday. As implemented by the Unified Activity Federation of the Iowa High School Athletic Association, Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union, Iowa High School Music Association and Iowa High School Speech Association.

Family Week goes until next Monday and is Iowa’s official break from all school related athletics and activities in every School District in the state. The week aims to provide students an opportunity to prioritize families, friends, rest and activities away from school activities.
The No-Contact Week includes practices, camps, clinics, workouts, strength and conditioning, lessons and meetings. It also prohibits any coach and/or teacher contact with student-athletes, and any IHSAA or IGHSAU event from occurring.
Next week many camps will be held with the official start of Fall Sports practices beginning on Monday, August 12th.
