Monticello Pig Wins Iowa State Fair’s Biggest Boar Title

A pig from Monticello has won the title of the Iowa State Fair’s “Biggest Boar”.

Finnegan, the crossbred boar of Bryan and Tricia Britt, tipped the scales at 1,420 pounds to win the contest on Thursday.

And Finnegan set a new State Fair record by 85 pounds – the prior State Fair record was 1,335 pounds.

Britt also won the Big Boar competition in 2019 and 2021 with his pigs Captain and Irish Cowboy. He says his goal in returning to the competition was to eventually bring a record-setting hog to the Iowa State Fair.

Finnegan is described as “a big eater with a big attitude,” whose favorite treat is gummy bear candies.

Reserve Champion honors were claimed by the boar shown by Mya Boyle of Danbury, which weighed in at 1,114 pounds.
