Local Fair Queens Competing in Iowa State Fair Queen Contest

A new Iowa State Fair Queen will be crowned this weekend – and seven young women from the area are among those vying for the state title.
Leah Reicher of Hopkinton is representing Delaware County in this year’s competition.
Anamosa senior Addison Appelhans is representing the Great Jones County Fair.
Other local contestants representing our county fairs include:
- Alyssa Kleinlein of Clayton County
- Kylie Nauman of Dubuque County
- Jayda Bowman of Linn County
- Ayda Cook of Buchanan County
- Mae Wedemeier of Fayette County
Around one hundred county fair queens from across the state have come together this week for the annual Iowa State Fair Queen competition. Judging is based on personality, attitude, leadership, citizenship, contribution to community, overall appearance, charm and poise.
The contestants appeared in the Iowa State Fair parade on Wednesday night, with introductions on the Knapp Stage Thursday and Friday.
The crowning of the 2024 Iowa State Fair Queen and Court will take place Saturday night at 7 pm on the Bill Riley Stage.
