Independence Firefighters Respond to Garage Fire

An Independence firefighter suffered minor injuries in a garage fire on Sunday night.

The Independence Fire Department says they were called to the area of 6th Avenue and 3rd Street Southwest around 9:30 pm. A neighbor was spraying water trying to knock down the fire.

When firefighters arrived, they found a two-stall garage with heavy smoke. Crews were able to make quick entry and put out the fire.

An investigation found the cause of the fire to be electrical.

Crews were assisted on the scene by the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office, Independence Police and Independence Light & Power Telecommunications.
