Former Wadena Man Sentenced for Multiple Firearms Violations

A man from Waterloo who was living in Wadena when deputies discovered his involvement in multiple firearms violations was recently sentenced to more than four years in federal prison.
34-year old David Jerald Samuell Chiles received the prison term after pleading guilty in January to one count of possession of a firearm as a felon, one count of possession of a firearm as a felon and unlawful drug user, and one count of making a false statement to purchase a firearm.
Evidence at the guilty plea and sentencing hearings, established that on May 9th, 2022, Chiles was involved in a Waterloo shooting that injured two people. In August 2022, Chiles made false statements about his status as a convicted felon to purchase a shotgun from a Waterloo gun dealer. In October 2023, Fayette County deputies went to Chiles’s residence in Wadena to arrest him for an unrelated incident and found him to be in possession of drugs and another firearm. A search warrant was executed and methamphetamine and marijuana and an assault rifle were found and seized at his home in Wadena.
Chiles is being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison.
