Excessive Heat Forecasted through Tuesday

Dangerous heat is forecasted to continue for at least one more day.
The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for the entire state of Iowa through 8 pm Tuesday.
The NWS advises Iowans to drink plenty of fluids, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Be aware of the signs of heat stroke and heat exhaustion. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 911.
Some relief is expected by Wednesday, with highs in the mid-80s. And cooler and more comfortable weather is in store for Iowa later this week, with forecasted highs over the Labor Day weekend ranging from 75 to 80 degrees.
Severe storms are also possible Tuesday into Tuesday night, with most of the area under a Marginal Level 1 out of 5 risk. Damaging winds would be the main threat. Stay with KMCH – we’ll let you know if any watches and warnings are issued and break in with live coverage as needed.
