Two Vehicle Accident and Car Fire Last Thursday in Buchanan County

On Thursday, August 22, 2024 at approximately 7:20 pm, Buchanan County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of 130th Street and Slater Avenue. According to the investigation, a 2020 Toyota Corolla operated by Ryan Thompson of Hazleton was traveling eastbound on 130th Street. A 2002 Toyota Tacoma operated by Finn Conover of Iowa City was traveling southbound on Slater Avenue. Thompson failed to yield from a stop sign and drove into the path of the Conover vehicle. Conover swerved to avoid a collision and lost control, entering the southwest ditch where the vehicle and caught fire. No injuries were reported and Thompson was cited for Failure Yield Right of Way. The Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Aurora Fire Department and Oelwein MercyOne Ambulance.
