Several Local Schools Awarded Grants to Help Buy Food

Several local schools are getting help to buy food.
Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig says the final round of Local Food for Schools grants are out for this year.
Schools can use the grants to buy meat, eggs, produce, dairy and other local foods from area farmers.
Naig says 137 public and private schools were awarded grants in this round. Local schools receiving grants include Aquin Catholic School in Cascade, Beckman Catholic High School in Dyersville, the Ed-Co School District, the Monticello Community School District, North Linn School District, Sacred Heart in Monticello, Seton Catholic School in Peosta and the Starmont Community School District.
Naig expects the program to continue and grow.
Naig says through the first two rounds, more than one-point-seven million dollars has been awarded to over 160 Iowa schools, and more than one hundred farms and food businesses have sold products to schools through the program.
