Winthrop Man Killed in Crash Near Walker

A Winthrop man was killed in a crash near Walker on Sunday morning.

At approximately 5:17 am, Buchanan County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a 911 report of a motor vehicle accident on Quasqueton Avenue at Linn-Buchanan Road, north of Walker. According to the investigation, a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado operated by Kyle Patrick Decker, 26, of Winthrop, was traveling southbound on Quasqueton Avenue when Decker lost control of the vehicle at the curves near Linn-Buchanan Road. The vehicle crossed the center line and traversed the east shoulder of the road before entering the east ditch south of Linn-Buchanan Road. The vehicle then struck a field drive and rolled over, coming to rest upside down.

Decker, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle and sustained fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

This accident remains under investigation.

The Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Linn County Sheriff’s Office, Walker Fire Department, Center Point Ambulance, Linn County Medical Examiner and Area Ambulance Service.
