One Injured in Dubuque County Collision

One person was injured in a collision in Dubuque County on Friday night.

The Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office says it happened west of Epworth on Highway 20 and Hartbecke Road shortly after 9:30 pm. Deputies from the Sheriff’s Office responded, along with Asbury Police and the Epworth Fire Department.

According to an investigation, 34-year old Daidra Ashby of Dyersville was driving her SUV westbound on Highway 20 when she pulled over on the side of the road to check a potential flat tire. After checking the tire, she pulled back onto Highway 20 and continued traveling west at approximately ten to fifteen miles per hour with her hazards activated.

The Sheriff’s Office says 15-year old Kyla Ramler of Luxemburg was also traveling west on Highway 20 at highway speeds and her car was unable to avoid rear-ending Ashby’s SUV.

Ramler was evaluated by Epworth EMS and transported to Finley Hospital by private vehicle. Ashby was checked out by Epworth EMS and declined to be transported to the hospital.

Ramler’s car was considered a total loss, while Ashby’s SUV sustained approximately $10,000 in damage.

Ashby faces several charges, including No Valid Driver’s License, No Insurance-Accident, Defective Tires and Driving an Unsafe Vehicle on a Highway.
