Police Officer Stops Porch Fire in Independence

A police officer helped stop a porch fire from spreading at an Independence home early Wednesday morning.
The Independence Fire Department says firefighters were dispatched for a porch fire in the 600 block of 6th Avenue Southwest around 2 am.
When they arrived, they discovered an Independence police officer had used a garden hose to knock down the fire.
Fire crews pulled a line to confirm the fire was out and that the residents were safe. Crews used a thermal imaging camera to check for fire extension and removed the burnt portions of the deck.
No injuries were reported.
