Burn Ban in Effect for Delaware County

A burn ban is now in effect for Delaware County.

Delaware County Emergency Management announced the ban on Wednesday morning in collaboration with all Delaware County fire chiefs.

Conditions have been very dry due to the lack of rain and there is no measurable rain in the immediate forecast. Vegetation moisture levels are such that a small spark could lead to a large wildfire.

A burn ban means open burning of yard waste or leaves, large brush burns or burning of old structures are not allowed.

However, the use of outdoor fireplaces, barbeque grills and properly supervised landfills are still allowed, as well as the burning of trash in incinerators or trash burners made of metal, concrete, masonry or heavy one-inch wire mesh with no openings greater than one square inch.

If a resident still needs to burn other than the already allowed applications, they can request a burn permit from their local fire chief.

The burn ban will be in effect in Delaware County until further notice.
