Manchester Flushing Water Hydrants in October

The City of Manchester Water Department will be flushing hydrants throughout the month of October – weather permitting.
Hydrants are flushed annually as part of the water system maintenance schedule.
The City says flushing hydrants is an important preventive maintenance activity that verifies proper operation of the City’s fire hydrants, and ensures adequate water flow will be available if the need for firefighting arises. Flushing also removes sediment that naturally accumulates in water mains.
During hydrant flushing, nearby residents may notice water running down the street, a temporary drop in water pressure, or a discoloration of their water. Discolored water is safe to use and meets all state and federal standards. The City says if your water is discolored, simply run cold water from a faucet until the water clears.
