Manchester Neighborhood Intersection Likely Gaining Three-Way Stop

A Manchester neighborhood will likely be gaining a stop sign soon to help slow down traffic.
The City of Manchester has been looking into an area of concern at the T-intersection of Winslow Drive and Crescent Drive on the north side of town. Manchester resident Jamie Vaske approached the Council last month, expressing concern with the speed of traffic – especially as more young families with children are moving into the neighborhood. Vaske asked the City to consider putting up a stop sign on Winslow Drive to help slow down eastbound traffic since there’s already a sign for westbound traffic.
The City positioned a speed trailer at the eastern end of Winslow Drive to collect data. Over the 11-day period the trailer was in place, more than 1,400 vehicles passed by. Of these, 168 exceeded the 25-mile per hour speed limit – that means roughly twelve-percent of the vehicles traveling eastbound on Winslow Drive were speeding. Eighteen of those vehicles were traveling over 31 miles per hour.
While the City says the current data does not suggest that vehicles are traveling at significantly higher speeds in this area, it does not appear necessary to implement a controlled intersection at Crescent Drive and Winslow Drive. There has traditionally been a stop sign for westbound traffic on Winslow Drive at this intersection and the City Council received feedback from a few residents requesting that the stop sign remain in place.
The Manchester City Council agreed at Monday night’s council meeting that adding a stop sign for eastbound traffic and making the T-intersection a three-way stop would be the best solution, noting that’s what residents are asking for to make their neighborhood safer.
A resolution will be presented at the next council meeting, with the council expected to approve the changes.
