A Red Flag Warning is in effect for eastern Iowa today.
The National Weather Service had initially issued a Fire Weather Watch – that was upgraded this morning to a Red Flag Warning. It means very high to extreme fire danger conditions are expected through this evening.
Southerly winds gusting between 25 to 35 mph, with very low relative humidity levels will combine with cured crops and drying vegetation to make for hazardous fire conditions.
Any fires that start in these conditions will spread quickly. Outdoor burning is not recommended today.
