Regional Family Health Provider Fined for Alleged Sexual Relationship with Patient

A family medicine physician at Regional Family Health in Manchester has been fined after allegedly engaging in a sexual relationship with one of his patients.
The Iowa Board of Medicine says Nikolas May, M.D., has been cited for “unprofessional and unethical conduct-sexual misconduct” and “failure to report disciplinary action”.
May serves in the areas of Family Practice and Obstetrics at the Regional Family Health clinics in Manchester and Strawberry Point.
Board documents published on Thursday state that the Board received information indicating that May had a sexual relationship with another employee “who was also his patient concurrent with the relationship”. The documents also state that May “failed to report a 30-day suspension from the hospital where he worked that resulted from the alleged relationship”.
May must pay a $3,000 civil penalty. He must also complete a Board-approved professional boundaries course.
The Iowa Board of Medicine says May has also been warned that engaging in such conduct in the future may result in further disciplinary action against his Iowa medical license.
