Buchanan & Linn Counties Hosting Drug Take Back Events

Both the Linn County and Buchanan County Sheriff’s Offices will be hosting a collection site for the Drug Enforcement Agency’s Drug Take Back Day this Saturday.
In Buchanan County, they’ll be collecting from 10 am to 2 pm at Buchanan County Public Health/Emergency Operations Center at 1210 First Street West in Independence. Residents can drop off unused, expired or unwanted drugs and medications, including veterinary medications, at this location.
The Linn County Sheriff’s Office will be collecting potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs for destruction at the Linn County Sheriff’s Office in Cedar Rapids and at the Alburnett Fire Station in Alburnett from 10 am to 2 pm.
The purpose of this event is to allow citizens to safely and properly dispose of unused, unwanted or expired drugs and medications, keeping them from contaminating landfills and water supplies. It also helps combat the growing problem of prescription drug and medication abuse among teens and young adults, which can oftentimes lead to unintentional overdose deaths.
Delaware County no longer holds a Drug Take Back event – that’s because there is a permanent drop-off box just outside the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office.
