Highway 13 Re-Opening North of Manchester

Highway 13 is re-opening this afternoon.

Construction crews have completed the 10-mile pavement replacement project from the north side of Manchester to the Highway 3 intersection.

Hugh Holak serves as the Resident Construction Engineer in the Iowa DOT’s Manchester office. He says they’re wrapping up a month ahead of schedule.

For the past two decades, Highway 13 has been a bit of a bumpy ride, with grooved lines running through the pavement. Holak says it was done that way as a test run.

He says now drivers will notice a smoother ride on Highway 13.

Since the road closed in early June, traffic was detoured east on U.S. 20 to Highway 38 and Highway 3. With Highway 13 now opening, the detours will no longer be in place. The DOT appreciates everyone’s patience and cooperation during this project.
