Manchester Teen Earns Northeast Iowa Council’s First Female Eagle Scout Honor

The Northeast Iowa Council, Scouting America is excited to announce their first female Eagle Scout – and she hails from Manchester.
Erin Mensen is from Troop 137 in Manchester and she’s part of the groundbreaking first class of female Eagle Scouts in the Council’s history – marking a major milestone for Scouting.
Becoming an Eagle Scout is the highest honor in Scouting – requiring years of commitment, a significant community-impact project, and strong leadership skills. For the young women in this first female Eagle Scout class, this achievement represents a lasting legacy in a program historically dominated by males, demonstrating the growing inclusiveness of Scouting.
Erin’s Eagle Scout project involved improving the landscaping around the Masonville Fire Department. She led the effort to lay landscaping blocks, spread river rock, and plant hostas.
Erin’s achievement is particularly special as she joins her brother, who also earned the rank of Eagle Scout earlier this year.
Erin and the rest of the 2024 Eagle Scout Class will be honored at the Eagle Scout Recognition Brunch in February. This event will celebrate all 2024 Eagle Scouts for their hard work, leadership, and dedication to community service.
“Erin is one of the founding members of Troop 137, and she has worked tirelessly to earn this prestigious rank,” said Christina Rudd, Scoutmaster of Troop 137. “We’re all incredibly proud of her leadership and her commitment to serving her community.”
The Eagle Scout Recognition Brunch will celebrate not just individual accomplishments, but the collective impact these young leaders have had on their communities.
“We are thrilled to honor Erin, the first female Eagle Scouts, and the entire 2024 class at the Recognition Brunch,” said Carl J. Bobis, CFRE, Executive Director. “Each Eagle Scout’s journey is unique, and we can’t wait to celebrate their achievements in February.”
