Candidate Preview – Travis Hemesath for Delaware County Sheriff

Tomorrow is Election Day – and today we are wrapping our preview of some of the local candidates running on this year’s ballot.

The position of Delaware County Sheriff is open this year. Longtime Sheriff John LeClere will be retiring at the end of the year – and a current deputy in his department is hoping to fill the role.

Travis Hemesath is the Republican candidate running unopposed for Delaware County Sheriff. Hemesath was born and raised in Winneshiek County on a small family dairy farm.

Hemesath moved to Delaware County in 2010 and has called it home ever since.

Hemesath says it’s always been his dream to become Sheriff.

Hemesath says he has a lot of goals if he is elected as Delaware County Sheriff, with his top priority being community safety.

Hemesath announced his candidacy early on in the election process – in March 2023 – and he says he has enjoyed this past year and a half running for Sheriff.
