The City of Dyersville has filed a lawsuit against Dubuque County.
The lawsuit was filed Thursday after the City did not receive more than half a million dollars in American Rescue Plan Act funds that was owed to the City for Field of Dreams renovations.
The City was set to receive the money last December. Instead, the County sent the funds to scammers who hacked the City’s email and requested the funds by impersonating the City.
The investigation into the stolen funds began in February.
The lawsuit alleges Dubuque County took no action to reach out to anyone in Dyersville to confirm the request for a transfer of funds – nor verified which account the funds were going to. The lawsuit demands a jury trial and seeks the $524,283.88 for the city of Dyersville.
