Iowa Department of Education Releases School Rankings

The Iowa Department of Education has released its annual ranking of schools.

The Department’s Information Bureau chief Jay Pennington says it’s the first time the School Performance Profiles had used an updated state plan for school accountability and support.

Thirty-five schools were listed as “in need of comprehensive support and improvement,” the lowest performance level. Pennington says that’s similar to what the previous system showed.

He says the report is the beginning of the process and the department has a school improvement team that will work directly with schools on a school improvement plan.

Here is a look at the ratings for local schools in the KMCH coverage area:

• Exceptional (1.25%) – no local coverage area schools
• High-Performing (12.4%) – Strawberry Hill, Maquoketa Valley Middle School, North Linn Elementary, North Linn Middle School, Cascade Elementary and Western Dubuque High School
• Commendable (32.06%) – East Buchanan Middle School, Ed-Co Elementary, Ed-Co High School, Independence East and West Elementary Schools, Johnston Elementary, Earlville Elementary, Delhi Elementary, Maquoketa Valley Senior High School, Shannon Elementary, Carpenter Elementary, Monticello Middle School, North Linn Senior High School, Starmont Middle School, Starmont High School, West Delaware Middle School, Epworth Elementary, Farley Elementary, Peosta Elementary, Drexler Middle School and Cascade Junior-Senior High School
