Senator Koelker of Dyersville Elected as Assistant Majority Leader

After retaining control of the House and Senate in last week’s election, Republican state lawmakers have chosen to keep the same leadership for the next session.

State Senator Carrie Koelker of Dyersville was among four senators elected as an Assistant Majority Leader this week.

Koelker was first elected to the Iowa Senate in 2018 and has served as an assistant leader since 2020. She was re-elected in 2022 to another four-year term.

Representative Pat Grassley of New Hartford was re-elected Speaker of the House on Tuesday and Matt Windschitl of Missouri Valley remains House Majority Leader. Both first gained those positions in 2019.

Republicans re-elected Jack Whitver as Senate majority leader, a position he has held since 2018. Whitver has been undergoing treatment for a brain tumor.

Senate Republicans also re-elected Amy Sinclair as Senate President.
