Manchester Wins Free Custom Mural in Statewide Contest

The Iowa Economic Development Authority announced on Monday that Manchester Vitality Endowment has won a free custom mural for its community in the 2024 Iowans Create Community Mural Contest.
Manchester will now work with Iowa artist Thomas Agran to develop and install an original mural that reflects input from residents and the town’s unique cultural and creative identity. Agran, who is based in Iowa City, was selected as the mural contest artist through a statewide call for proposals.
Launched by the Iowa Finance Authority in 2021, the mural contest recognizes the importance of unity, community spirit and unique creative and cultural identity of Iowa’s communities. Manchester was selected as the winner from among 14 finalists, following an online voting period during which more than 5,000 Iowans cast votes for 30 participating communities.
IEDA and IFA Director Debi Durham says public art projects, like this mural, do more than beautify a community. She says they inspire pride, foster local identity and can even attract visitors and businesses.
The mural is expected to be completed and publicly unveiled late next spring.
