Crash Injures Two, Causes Power Outages in Linn County

Two people were injured in a crash that caused power outages in parts of Linn County on Saturday night.

Shortly before 10 pm, Linn County Deputies along with Linn County Sheriff Rescue 57, Troy Mills Fire Department, and Center Point Ambulance Service, responded to a single vehicle rollover with injuries at Troy Mills Rd and Paris Rd.

Upon arrival, emergency responders discovered a white Chrysler Town and Country minivan had left the roadway, rolled and collided with a power pole at this intersection.

Investigation into the accident revealed the minivan was northbound on Troy Mills Rd when the driver, 40-year old Jillian Whitaker of Coggon, fell asleep behind the wheel. The driver was unable to traverse the curve and left the roadway northbound into an Alliant Energy power pole before rolling and coming to a stop.

Both the driver and passenger, 41-year old Gregory Whitaker of Coggon, were transported to St. Luke’s Hospital with minor injuries. Both were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident.

Jillian Whitaker was cited for Failure to Maintain Control.

The accident caused power outages for much of northwest Linn County. Alliant Energy is working to restore power as soon as possible.
