Christmas Roll Over Injures Two

A one vehicle accident injured two on Christmas night. According to the report from the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, a Ford Explorer driven by 44-year old Marcos Gerado of Edgewood was travelling westbound on 210th Street at what witnesses described as a high rate of speed when he failed to traverse a curve approaching 145th Avenue. As a result, Gerado entered the ditch and struck the embankment. The vehicle went airborne, rolled over and came to rest on its side in a field west of 145th Avenue. He was transported to the Regional Medical Center for treatment of unknown injuries. His passenger, 40-year old Ofelia Ramirez-Diaz of Edgewood, needed to be extracted from the vehicle, eventually being transported to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for what were described as serious injuries. An alcohol test given showed Gerado was under the influence at the time of the accident. The investigation continues with charges possibly pending.
